Improvement of Storm Water Drainage System

a) Covering of storm water drains using stone

At the start of the EcoCity Project, about 85% of the road stretches had storm water drains. Of the areas covered by storm water drains, about 79% are uncovered, about 9.5% are partly covered and about 5% are covered but with gaps in between. About 53% of storm water drains have solid waste deposited in them due to which the drains do not achieve self-clensing velocity, about 18 % of drains are totally clogged and about 7% have stagnation to the extent of creating bad odour. The stagnant drains pose severe sanitation problems and health risks. Also, they pose risks of overflow and flooding in the rainy season.

Under the project activities on “Redevelopment of Parikrama Marg”, “Improvement around Banke Bihari Temple” and “Improvement along the roads starting from Vrindavan Nagarpalika via Rangnathji Temple to Banke Bihari Temple”, being taken up under the EcoCity Project, the storm water drains are proposed to be improved and covered using stone material.

b) Cleaning/desiltation of drains and sewers in the core area

With the cleanliness drive launched during November 21 to December 20, 2005, where in over 60 workers were engaged, a significant amount of cleanliness of drains and sewers was achieved. With the night cleaning drive in progress around Banke Bihari Temple, the flow in the drains has considerably improved.
