Improvement of Storm Water Drainage System
The storm water drains in the core area are stagnant with silt and garbage thrown in them. Steps and other structures have been haphazardly constructed over the drains to enter into the houses or shops that are on road side or just to cover the drains. The stagnant drains pose severe sanitation problems and health risks. Also, they pose risks of overflow and flooding in the rainy season.
As a pilot work, it is proposed to take up the project
activity on covering of storm water drains around Lord Jaganath
Temple. To maintain compatibility with the temple structure, similar
red stone (15 cm thick) is proposed to be used for covering the
drains, similar to the work done in Tirupati. DPRs have been prepared
by the Puri Municipality that have been approved by the Project
Coordination Committee at Puri under the chairmanship of the District
Collector.
Central Pollution Control Board has issued the sanction
to this activity. Municipality is currently in the process of starting
work.
