Generation of Awareness and Assuring Community Participation in MSW management

The CEE team in Puri had been entrusted with the task of spreading awareness amongst people, within the purview of the AAWaM programme resulting in establishment of the MSWM system entailing household waste segregation, collection and disposal/reuse/recycle.

The main activities carried out include:

  1. Plantation drives at Koili Baikuntha (garden of Lord Jagannath Temple)
  2. Environmental awareness rally
  3. Shramdaan at Ananda Bazar, Laxmi Bazaar, Bus Sand, South gate of Lord Jagannath Temple
  4. Special cleanliness drive in the core area launched on World Environment day
  5. Competitions-drawing competitions, slogan writing and essay writing
  6. Street plays (Nukkad Natak) with themes such as “Hazards of Pollution” and “Waste Segregation”
  7. Promotional videoshow - “Meena’s Village Say Yes to Garbage Management”
  8. De-silting of the drain at bust stand
  9. Organizing traditional folk dance performed by Puri Dance Academy showcasing the theme “Evolution of Mankind”
  10. Children’s play-“Papaa ki Manmani”
  11. Photo-documentation of the entire core area

Resident Welfare Associations have been formed along the street adjoining the Jagannath temple and NGOs have been identified for door-to-door collection of waste segregation and removal from the area.
