Kottayam-Kumarakom EcoCity Programme

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Govt. of Kerala, Kottayam Municipality, Ecosmart India Ltd, and the Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India (MoEF) to undertake Kottayam-Kumarakom EcoCity programme for achieving environmental improvement and achieving sustainable development in the Kottayam–Kumarakom region in Kerala. As per the MoU, Ecosmart India Ltd. is expected to raise funds to the tune of Rs 500 cr for implementing various projects, without liability to the partners.

A comprehensive Environmental Management Plan for the region has been prepared by Ecosmart India Ltd. Based on the priorities of the Kottayam Municipality, the MSW Project for Kottayam has been detailed, and Request for Proposal (RFP) floated for its implementation through private agencies. Applications have been received from interested companies and the award of contract is under finalisation.
