Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur implemented a first measure of a new training course type, coaching course, in January, 2004 on Ecocities. The intensive and skills orientated course was held on behalf of InWEnt Capacity Building International, Germany and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi, under the Human Resource Development Programme in Spatial Environmental Planning, HRDP-SEPnet. This training course was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Cooperation and Development. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit - Advisory Services in Environmental Management (GTZ- ASEM) facilitated the local implementation.
The new training type provides intensive skills training not only to the participants, but also to the trainers who are themselves trained by the international coach. During the course the international coach provided a deep insight into international best practices and lessons learnt.
InWEnt, GTZ-ASEM and CPCB intended that the outcomes of the course should not be limited to the participants only. Therefore it was decided to design an information portal which should provide more than the mere training materials and which can be exported to a CD-ROM upon request.
Participants
The ecocities-training-programme - “Train the Trainers” was held at IIT Kharagpur, January 12. - 31.2004 with 18 participants from all parts of India, from municipalities, state planning authorities and federal government institutions.
